For Black History Month, Eta Sigma Delta Inc will be highlighting some of our black-owned businesses on the grid for the second year. These business leaders have been seen working very hard at what they do and showing everyone that they can and will do it. We want to recognize them for their hard work and dedication to their crafts.

These businesses have made a positive impact on the community rather it was by recognizing their dedicated customers, giving out group gifts, joining into conversations with their customers on Facebook, or just by giving great customer service. We want to say thank you for letting us into your world and we commend you for your hard work and focus.

Christy aka Big Sister Sweet & Sassy works at Koi Lotus Medical Center.

Here is what our eighth business owner had to say...

About the owner, Sakari Amirra Cheveyo™ M.D...

"I am Dr. Sakari A. Cheveyo M.D (llkvrma) physician and owner of Koi Lotus Medical Center. I completed my Doctoral education at Sacred Heart Medical University. Prior to opening my own medical facility, I have been a physician for a little over 3 years at Family Luv Medical/Birthing Center where I worked as Chief Of Staff, and also where I got my first experience as a doctor here on SL. I am a Medical Assistant in real life and I have worked in an OB/GYN Clinic. I wanted to bring what I learned from real life to Secondlife to give my patients the most realistic experience possible. With that being said I take pride in my Staff, Office, & Clinic. I offer more than just prenatal care, I offer love and compassion for my patients and their families."

Koi Lotus Medical Center just opened on December 10, 2021, and will continue for many more years.

We asked Sakari a couple of questions and here is what she had to say...

Do you find it is harder for you to be a black-owned business specifically if a lot of what you design, creative, or put together caters more to black people?

- "As a black business owner, I do find it harder because as a community a lot of it is viewed as competition instead of coming together and working to promote and uplift each other. It seems like the love and support you would expect from your own community is hard to come by and in return can make it harder."

What makes doing what you do rewarding for you?

- "To hear my patients say they are having a great experience and that they will be back, or that they are going to send more people to the clinic because they enjoy themselves. I love to hear the feedback and to know that I'm doing what I need to do for each individual person that crosses my path to have an experience that they can remember and are overall satisfied within the end. "

Typically how long does it take you to get 1 item out?

"Starting out it hasn't been hard to gain patients. Most of my patients are returning patients that have had a great experience with me and in return refer others to come. "

What advice can you give to other black entrepreneurs trying to start their SL business?

- "The advice I would give to other black entrepreneurs trying to start a SecondLife business would be to plan ahead and work hard, push yourself, and never give up no matter how difficult it may seem. We oftentimes want to see the results right then but it takes time and attention. Hard work always pays off and the end result will show that. Also, stick to those who you know genuinely love and support you it is all helpful in the end."

What would you like to say to all of your supporters and customers?

- "To my supporters and patients thank you thank you a million times over for all the love and support you give. You all make it worthwhile and I appreciate each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart. You all keep my passion and my love for what I do alive and give me the extra push to do what I do. Much love to you all and many thanks! ♥"

The Flawless Sapphires of Eta Sigma Delta would like to thank you Sakari for taking time out of your busy day to give us a look inside your life.

Hello, and welcome back, hope you tuned in yesterday for our sixth black-owned business! If you are new here, grab a seat and check out what we are doing this month! Grab some snacks and get to reading.

For Black History Month, Eta Sigma Delta Inc will be highlighting some of our black-owned businesses on the grid for the second year. These business leaders have been seen working very hard at what they do and showing everyone that they can and will do it. We want to say thank you for letting us into your world and we commend you for your hard work and focus.

Christy aka Big Sister Sweet & Sassy went to check out International Elite Travel SL.

Here is what our seventh business owner had to say...

Our seventh business is International Elite Travel SL!

International Elite Travel is a roleplay cruise travel business. That picks a real-life destination to recreate on SecondLife for a 4 day 3-night adventure.

About the owner, Anitra Haiku...

"I have been on SL for 12 1/2 years. I have been a striper, host, own a club, been a partner in running a sorority and now am the owner of an RP travel business. For the most part, can be quiet until I'm in hosting mode for I. Elite. I love meeting new people. I'm pretty open and honest on just about everything and I'm never offended about questions asked of me."

International Elite Travel has been in business for six years and will continue for many more years.

We asked Anitra a couple of questions and here is what she had to say...

Do you find it is harder for you to be a black-owned business specifically if a lot of what you design, creative, or put together caters more to black people?

- "I think all business is hard at the beginning and trying to maintain it. I do think my business does cater to more African Americans (although it's not supposed to be) mainly because I think they get more of my vision and enjoy our RP style. It wasn't planned that way, I want it to cater to everyone and for everyone who comes on our cruises to enjoy themselves. "

What makes doing what you do rewarding for you?

- "I love seeing people enjoy what we have put together. I love hearing our guest say "shoot we never got to do this or that" because it was so much other stuff to do they never got to it. That's the best reward, seeing and hearing something say I had an amazing time, when is your next cruise. That makes it all worth it."

Typically how long does it take you to get 1 item out?

"We do cruises every 4 months (3 times a year)."

What advice can you give to other black entrepreneurs trying to start their SL business?

- "Be patient, it won't happen overnight. Love what you are doing, if it's not something that's fun and passionate you are more likely to quit. Start knowing you are not going to make money right off the bat, you have built into that. Be able to take criticism, it's not meant to hurt but help you grow and get better."

What would you like to say to all of your supporters and customers?

- "Thank you for staying with us for over 5 years. We couldn't have gotten this far without you and we hope to bring you even better cruises in the future. "

The Flawless Sapphires of Eta Sigma Delta would like to thank you Anitra for taking time out of your busy day to give us a look inside your life.

Here is what our fourth business owner had to say...

Our third business is Noire Interior and Events!

Noire Interior and Events is a Black-Owned Interior and event decorating company on Second Life. Our mission is to provide an experience for our clients to bring their vision to life while maintaining a realistic timeline and a feasible budget. We believe that Passion and Communication are key aspects to retaining existing clients while also welcoming new clientele.

About the owner, Kailani Noire...

"My name is Kailani Noire and I have been on second life for nine years. My love for decorating developed in 2015 when I started to do my land. I would decorate and landscape it into something new every month. After a while, family and friends would have me do their lands as well. I stepped out on faith and created my public business on 1/27/2021. I spend most of my days now, learning new techniques as a decorator and expanding my family."

Noire Interior and Events has been in business for one year and continues to grow.

We asked Kailani a couple of questions and here is what she had to say...

Do you find it is harder for you to be a black-owned business specifically if a lot of what you design, creative, or put together caters more to black people?

- "No, I don’t believe my race makes it harder but it doesn’t make it easier as well. I am pretty versatile in my decorating."

What makes doing what you do rewarding for you?

- "I love to decorate. I did not start this as a get-rich Plan but to showcase my talent. A talent that I have spent years not believing in. I love when someone tells me they love what I did for them. I also accept criticism as a way to improve next time. "

Typically how long does it take you to get 1 item out?

"It typically takes me a week or two to complete a job that is on a large scale. I can do a single room in less than a day. "

What advice can you give to other black entrepreneurs trying to start their SL business?

- "My advice would be: Do not give up if you’re passionate about it even when business is slow. Show grace and professionalism at all times."

What would you like to say to all of your supporters and customers?

- "To my support system and customers, I truly love and appreciate you because without your support and praise I would not have made it in this business for a year. My support system shows out and shows up for me daily, even with a simple post share or watching me in my element. My customers are loyal and gracious. I thank you for always trusting me with your vision. "

Here is what our third business owner had to say...

It consists of a group of Black Business Owners and supporters who can Network and promote their business and gives instant access to customers who support the products and services that our members offer. About the owner, Diamond Meness...

"I've been a member of the Second Life community since 2006. I enjoy networking and helping people in any way I can. I make cakes and foods in real life and this transfer into my real-life business where I bake and make cakes. I have a great family on the game and an amazing daughter and I try my best to continue to do what I do for as long as I can."

BBOSL has been in business since 2008. Special O'Cassions of Second Life has been in business since 2007 renamed from Kitchen Nibbles and continues to grow.

We asked Diamond a couple of questions and here is what she had to say...

Do you find it is harder for you to be a black-owned business specifically if a lot of what you design, creative, or put together caters more to black people?

- "No. I've never found it hard being a black-owned business in Second Life. My designs are such that they cater to the individual. I do have a lot of items that cater to African Americans like my Soul Food Placemat and my Southern takeout food. It's not hard to do because it's what I grew up eating and what I make every day. I enjoy creating these things. And what makes it extra special is I will take a picture of my creations and use it on my items in-game. So knowing that it's something that I made in Real Life transferred over to Second Life is really cool."

What makes doing what you do rewarding for you?

- "As I said. It's a part of me. And I enjoy doing what I do. The sound of an excited customer or a happy customer makes it all worthwhile. I want my custom-made customers to know that what I make for this is special just to them. That it's unlike anything else in-game. So If I am requested to do a wedding cake. They will know that there is no other wedding cake like it in-game. That's pretty awesome."

Typically how long does it take you to get 1 item out?

"If it's a custom item, it depends, like wedding cakes can take up to 3 weeks depending on how detailed they want it to be. It also depends on the item. If it's wedding flowers, that can take a while as well. It just depends."

What advice can you give to other black entrepreneurs trying to start their SL business?

- "Understand that you have to be married to your business. If you are wondering what to do or where to start when it comes to a business, do something that you enjoy. Something that's fun for you. It won't seem like work. Be original. Many will copy you. But that just means you have to exceed your own creations."

What would you like to say to all of your supporters and customers?

- "I've been around a long time. Since 2007. Both of my businesses have been going strong. My validation comes from my customers and clients. They are the ones that I look to please. I am very appreciative of this recognition, but it will always be my customers who have made me who I am. I know it and I appreciate them for it. And as long as they need me, that's what is important to me. I have 14 successful business years invested in Second Life. That's a long time and not many can say that. I have been a part of beta test groups, I have got to work with some amazing content creators. My goal is realism. And I hope that I have done that for my clients. When it comes to Special O'Cassions , When they look at my food. I don't want them to think oh...that's cute. I want them to think...wow...I"m hungry. I want them to think, that looks real enough to eat. When they join BBOSL, I want to them feel like they are part of a group of like-minded business owners where they can network and share. And expand and grow their own business. This is what makes a good black business owner a great leader in the black-owned business world."

The Flawless Sapphires of Eta Sigma Delta would like to thank you Diamond for taking time out of your busy day to give us a look inside your life.
