~National Aunt and Uncles Day~

~National Aunt and Uncles Day~

Today is National Aunt and Uncle’s Day. It honors a special set of relatives we look up to throughout our lives. During holidays, family events and sometimes sleepovers, aunts and uncles often hold an extraordinary place in our hearts. They fill our lives with fun, laughter, love and incredible memories.

This holiday provides an opportunity to spend time with our parents’ siblings we trusted and leaned on growing up.  It would be an excellent time to get out the old photo albums. Look through the pictures, and relive the memories of earlier days around the Christmas tree or at the 4th of July picnic or maybe at the beach vacation that included those special aunts and uncles in your life. Get together with your relatives and create new memories. Remind them of all the reasons you enjoy having them in your life.

Take the day to contact your aunts and uncles. Remember all the value they’ve added to your life and tell them about it. Share a meal, write them a note, help them the way they once supported you.

At this time I would like to shout out some special ladies and gentleman who I have the privilege of calling my aunts and uncles
Heiress Straff, Monique Santiago, Cella Goodnight, Juss AJ, Goldy Hynes, Nakita Anton and My Auntie Divine I hope she is resting in paradise. Davon Santiago, and Geno Knave

👵💓 Gorgeous Grandma Day 👵💓

GORGEOUS GRANDMA DAY

July 23rd celebrates Gorgeous Grandma day! This day recognizes all women of a certain age whether they are grandmothers or not.

Not all women become grandmothers. Those who do, don’t necessarily fit the traditional mold any longer. Others still reach a point where many assume grandmother status, even though no grandchildren are about. Gorgeous Grandma Day embraces the age of the nana and encourages all women to flaunt their granny attitudes with purpose and style, or as I would say for my grandma, flaunt her Glammy attitude because my grandmother is a total Glam Diva!

While some grandmas fit the traditional mold with gray hair and cookie-baking, home-making, hug-giving, child-spoiling energy to spare, many grannies sport a whole new role. Many take to the part of grandma to the children in their lives.

No matter the type of grandmother they are, they’re all different. Some play the hippest games, wear the latest styles and know how to find the best deals on technology. Even the grandkids can’t keep up! Funny, sassy and energetic grandmas, rebel glammies and smart  glammies make the grade, too.

In many scenarios, grandmother-types step into the role where no grandmother remains. These women lend ears, laps, and hugs, much like the nanas of memory. Of course, they build foundations and set young men and women on their course.

Nearly all of these fantastic women pass down family traditions while teaching children to stand on our own. Full of wisdom and wit, what would anyone do without their nanas? They go by many names, but they’re all gorgeous in their own way.

On Gorgeous Grandma Day, let the grandmothers in your life know how much they mean to you.
No matter your age, be your gorgeous self. Maybe you’re a grandma, and perhaps you’re not. It doesn’t matter. Own the attitude and celebrate. Use #GorgeousGrandmaDay to share on social media.

************************************************

On this day I recognize my gorgeous and fun Glamma! Taraji Nola Swade. Not only is she gorgeous but she is fun and very family orientated which is what I love about her. She embraces you as apart of her life and she is very supportive. #myglambetterthanyours 😋

Celebrate your gorgeous grandma today!

💐July- Unlucky Month For Weddings

💍 IS JULY REALLY AN UNLUCKY MONTH TO GET HITCHED?

"Married in July with flowers ablaze, Bitter-sweet memories in after days" - so goes the phrase every couple wants ringing in their ears as the suit up for their big day, no?
"A July bride will be handsome, But a trifle quick-tempered" declares another ancient verse, but for heavens sake don't let that rile you up or you'll ruin your pretty face.
And while you're at it, don't even think about tying the knot on a Saturday in July; a day that's literally been called "no luck at all" by one particularly abrupt auspicious verse.
While we all seem to love a summer wedding - fabulous guest fashion, outdoor ceremonies in the sun, long lazy day-after celebrations filled with BBQ meats and cold craft beers - it seems that according to ancient traditions, getting married in the height of it is akin to walking under a ladder hand-in-hand while smashing a mirror beside a black cat on one of the most important days of your life, apparently.

Yet while July gets a bad rap for weddings, superstitious couples tying the knot this month might be happy to know that it's not actually considered the most unlucky.
That accolade instead actually goes to May, a month generally regarded as the most inauspicious historically due to it being the time the ancient Romans celebrated their dead.
🌷 "Married in August’s heat and drowse, Lover and friend in your chosen spouse."
August couples look to get the best deal where superstitious verses are considered, with brides who tie the knot then said to be both 'agreeable' and 'practical', and their marriages heaving with friendship and intimacy.
One verse that bodes well for June couples notes that their marriages will be one long lavish holiday, "Married in month of roses- June-, Life will be one long honeymoon."
While some of us succumb to every day superstitions such as not putting an umbrella up indoors, or touching wood to stop something we say from coming true, there are plenty of superstitions and traditions associated with weddings that couple's pay no heed to nowadays.
Many modern couples have turned the idea of not seeing the bride before the ceremony on its head by staging adorable first look photos, while others have stood to benefit from knock down prices offered by venues and suppliers by holding their wedding on a Friday 13th.
🌹 Hand-fasting ceremonies
And while no attention is paid to some ancient ideas, other old pagan and folkloric rituals are actually actively influencing new popular trends in Irish weddings, and being included in many ceremonies.
As part of spiritual and non-religious weddings, many couples today are opting to include hand-fasting ceremonies in their wedding celebrations.
Hand-fasting ceremonies involve the couple's hands being bound by ribbons as a sign of commitment. They are often associated with New Age movement and are sometimes considered as Celtic ceremonies.
🌷What does this ancient rhyme reveal about your wedding month?
“Married in January’s hoar and rime,
Widowed you’ll be before your prime.
Married in February’s sleepy weather,
Life you’ll tread in time together.
Married when March winds shrill and roar,
Your home will lie on a distant shore.
Married ‘neath April’s changeful skies,
A chequered path before you lies.
Married when bees o’er May-blossoms flit,
Strangers around your board will sit.
Married in month of roses- June-
Life will be one long honeymoon.
Married in July with flowers ablaze,
Bitter-sweet memories in after days.
Married in August’s heat and drowse,
Lover and friend in your chosen spouse.
Married in September’s golden glow,
Smooth and serene your life will go.
Married when leaves in October thin,
Toil and hardships for you begin.
Married in veils of November mist,
Fortune your wedding-ring has kissed.
Married in days of December’s cheer,
Love’s star shines brighter from year to year.” 🌹

INTERNATIONAL LASAGNA DAY!

                                        INTERNATIONAL LASAGNA DAY!
                                 WHO'S HUNGRY?

You don’t have to be Italian or a fat, orange cartoon cat to celebrate National Lasagna Day on July 29. Tomato sauce, cheeses, meat, and vegetables — all separated by wide flat noodles — what’s not to love? Lasagna first showed up in Naples, Italy during the Middle Ages and made it to America in the 19th century. Since then, Americans have made it all their own. So this National Lasagna Day, head to your favorite Italian restaurant, or pre-heat the oven and make your own.

National Lasagna Day - History

1995

Ronzoni introduces no-boil lasagna noodles to American supermarkets

1330s

The first recipe book to feature lasagna is published in Italy

1880s

Italian immigrants bring lasagna to the United States

Try a new recipe

Since there are so many different options for cooking lasagna, you should have little problem finding a great new recipe. If you want to try a lasagna with meatballs or even straight up vegetarian, you’ll easily find recipes for both. You may end up finding a new variety that you like even better than grandma’s. (Just don’t tell her.)

It's gooey and delicious

Lasagna is a mess to make and a mess to eat — and that’s part of the reason it’s so great. So many times when preparing and enjoying food, people make too much out of the way it looks. But lasagna naturally spreads out when it’s free from the pan, with layers going everywhere. So don’t be neat and tidy on National Lasagna Day. Just have a napkin on stand by!

🎮 National Video Game Day

Dust off that old Nintendo and haul your prized collection of games out of the closet. National Video Game Day happens on July 8! (Its cousin, National Video Games Day, is Sept. 12.) Primarily used for recreational purposes (although professional gaming leagues do, in fact, exist), video games have exploded in popularity over the last few decades. They’re exciting, invigorating, and most importantly — not just for kids. The very first video game ever invented involved simple table tennis. Today, there are over five million games in existence. From high-speed racing adventures to perilous virtual dueling matches, there’s a genre for everyone to enjoy.

🎮NATIONAL VIDEO GAME DAY ACTIVITIES

  1. Stage a marathon with friends

Take a sick day from work (or if your boss is super chill – just let him/her know you’re calling out because it’s Video Game Day), whip out Mario Kart 64, and get ready to party like it’s 1999. Although one could easily play for hours, it’s always nice to have a couple of different games on hand for your enthusiastic guests to choose from.
  2. Visit a themed bar

If all of your buddies are busy working, look for the nearest video game-themed bar (assuming you're over 21) and head out to mingle among other comrades. Perhaps you’ll even make a couple of new friends!
  3. Dress up

Whether you consider yourself more of a Luigi or a Nathan Drake, putting together the costume is half the fun. The other half? Showing it off, of course.
🎮WHY WE LOVE NATIONAL VIDEO GAME DAY

  1. They’re timeless

Despite our increasingly complex tech world (although we don’t have flying cars yet), video games will never go out of style. They just keep getting better all the time.
  2. Never boring

Playing video games is one of the best ways to pass free time. Granted, there are certainly lots of other activities available — but let’s be honest: Why would we even consider these, when video games are an option? Plus, the adrenaline rush we get by saving Princess Peach from the evil Bowser is incomparable.
  3. They teach us valuable life lessons

Believe it or not, video games can teach important life lessons. Many characters possess distinct personalities, relationships, and aspirations. You get to create their destinies through thought-provoking scenarios.
HAPPY GAMING!!!!

👨‍👧 National Father Daughter Takes a Walk Day 👨‍👧

NATIONAL FATHER DAUGHTER TAKE A WALK DAY

I know what you are thinking.... National what? What is that? Oh you made this up yourself. I assure you that National Father Daughter Take A Walk Day is in fact a national day. To be honest, it's a pretty cool day if you ask me. Just think about it...

This day promotes the bonding of dad's and daughters through the simple act of taking a walk together and sharing observations and conversations. Just by getting away from distractions of work, chores, and electronics, fathers and their daughters can learn more about each other and make memories that will last a lifetime. I actually think me and my dad should make this a weekly or monthly thing. There is so much to learn about each other.

National Father Daughter Take a Walk Day is observed annually on July 7th but make it a tradition and it doesn't have to be your father, could be your grandfather, step father, uncle etc.

The memories made during your time together will stay with you forever. During the summer season, there are many incredible places to walk and enjoy nature as you spend time talking, laughing and bonding. While taking a stroll, cherish the time spent together. Your child will value the gift of the time you give no matter how they are.

As you’re walking, you will also be setting an excellent example of a healthy lifestyle – another valuable gift. Walking is one of the best exercises and the easiest to incorporate into a child’s life at a young age. Set a pace that’s comfortable for the both of you. And remember, walking is something the whole family can do together, so don’t be surprised when the rest of the family asks to go for walks, too.

Father-daughter walks can be as long or short as you like. Walks around your neighborhood help increase interactions with the neighborhood. Another great place for walks is along local walking or hiking trails. These well-marked trails offer a little bit of nature while keeping from getting lost. During inclement weather, indoor walking tracks take the place of the sunshine and parks. However, if there’re no thunder or lightning, take an umbrella. While walking in the rain with your daughter, take in the cleaner air and splash in some puddles.

Besides walking, start a conversation with your daughter. Subjects vary depending upon your child’s age, of course. However, your child usually knows where to take the conversation. If you both are at a loss for words, visit www.verywellfamily.com for some conversation starters. These topics not only will help you get to know your daughter better, but they will help her get to know you, too. Your guidance and time help your daughter learn self-respect, determination, and perseverance. Fathers some times don’t realize how much a daughter looks up to them and cherishes their attention.

Celebrate the opportunities to stroll and converse with your daughter. Create a new routine and this same time next year, it will be the anniversary of your father-daughter walks!

I enjoy any of the time I get to spend with my dad, you should do the same :)

Me and my little sister Kyra had the opportunity to walk with our father :)

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL KISSING DAY!

              HAPPY INTERNATIONAL KISSING DAY!

There are as many types of kiss as there are people to pucker up, and who doesn’t love a good kiss? Whether it’s a quick friendly peck on the cheek between friends, or a long, passionate tongue-lashing between new partners, International Kissing Day celebrates this most enjoyable of activities and the part it plays in cultures throughout the world. If you haven’t shown your partner just how much you enjoy them, maybe International Kissing Day is your chance to remind them with a toe-curling kiss!

History of International Kissing Day

International Kissing Day was established in 2006 to focus on the kissing that takes place between lovers, and to celebrate the place it holds in our society. One of the most surprising things about this holiday is the research that revealed that 5% of people over the age of 45 are locking lips at least 31 times a week! Who would have thought that old fires burn so hot?
Events are organized all over to celebrate International Kissing Day, with events for those who have lovers, and those who are looking for them. Kiss-in’s let you test drive a potential dates lips before you ever hook up with them for an actual date, and kissing classes help you learn how to become an amazing kisser.
But romantic kissing isn’t the only place that kissing happens in our culture and society. Among the high society, it’s not at all unusual to greet with a kiss on each cheek, a tradition that heralds back to the Old World. Young children frequently get kisses from their loving parents, though it’s something that tends to fade as children get older.
Over all, kissing has played an important role in social bonding since time out of mind, and International Kissing Day celebrates them all!

How to celebrate International Kissing Day

Well that’s simple enough isn’t it? Wake up in the morning and kiss your partner good morning, then greet your friends with a quick kiss on the cheek to show them how much you appreciate them. If you’re a bit more reserved, place a chaste kiss on the back of the hand of friends you hold in high regard. There’s a million different ways to deliver a kiss to those you care about, and they don’t all have to be romantic! So on International Kissing Day, pucker up every chance you get! Just remember the breath mints.
