All I Want For Christmas Day 4 ~Big Sister On Point~

All I want for Christmas is for 2021 to be much better than 2020. The whole world is suffering from this virus that came in and ruined families. I want equality for all, s peace, love, unity and healing hearts. I have lost a lot this year including my nephew to senseless violence.

I say peace.... Peace of mind, peace from harm, peace from ignorance, peace from bigotry, peace from prejudice, peace from bullying, peace from illnesses etc.   I just want PEACE, still silence, deafening peace.

I say unity because this world needs to heal from the man that was put into office for 4 years. He caused division and pain.   We are all HUMAN, bleed red and can all leave this earth the same. This is not years ago we need to excel better.

I say love because a lot of people forget how to love, or to love. Love is the essence of beauty, joy, leading to peace, unity and healing. Love does not mean possession. Love does not anger. Love conquers all especially, love of my savior Jesus Christ which is the true reason of this season we celebrate. It’s not about presents and good food, it’s about the one that died for us to save us. HE showed unconditional LOVE.

I wish my family and friends all of the above and know they have my love eternally.

This is all I want for Christmas.

All I Want For Christmas Day 2 ~Big Sister She Did That~

All I want for Christmas is good health and quality time with family. This year was a huge eye opener for me. I lost a few loved ones and it really took a toll on me. On the bright side it has shown me that family is everything. Quality time with the ones you love is so important over the material things. As long as those in my life are safe, healthy and happy then I'm goooooOd!

I'm praying that our world finally heals and next year we are stronger than ever! Merry Christmas to my beautiful sisters. I love each and every one of you. I'm so thankful that we have crossed paths in this game of second life. May you all receive everything that your heart desires and so much more

As with other Cancers, lung cancer is heartbreaking, deadly and attacks like a army. Before telling useful information and facts about lung cancer, I would like to share my story...

My mother smoked cigarettes for many, many years and all attempts to stop smoking just wasn't successful. In 1997 I remember it so very clearly, I was at work and my mother was at the doctor getting results from test that I had no idea she had taken. While it wasn't the best idea for my middle sister to contact me at work, she did and the words that escaped her mouth, I would never forget the feeling I got in the pit of my stomach.... Through tears she said... "Mommy has cancer." The phone dropped without me even realizing it and my heart sank and all I heard her say wasn't those words, but to me it conveyed into, "Mommy is dying." I started crying so hard that my supervisor had to take me to her office and let me get it out there. That day began the journey of my mother's cancer fight and has scared as I was, I was determined to help her get through this fight.

We watched as she endured lung surgery to remove half of her lung, chemotherapy that made her extremely sick and took all of her hair, radiation which made it hard for her to breathe and made her chest area hard and discolored. This was not easy to watch but my mother.... My mother is my hero because through it all, she prayed, she smiled, she kept a constant smiled and glow to her. You would never believe this woman was enduring so much.

Four years later, they said the cancer had gone however, due to all of this trauma, she had heart trouble, diabetes, thyroid surgery, asthma but the cancer itself had become what I say dormant but what the doctors said... gone....

A year later, I would never forget, two days after our birthday (we share the same birthday), in November it was 70 degrees out, we had celebrated our birthday by going to times square and having a ball. Two days later she ended up in the hospital, blood sugar spiked, they admitted her and two days after that she was in ICU with the doctors telling us she would not make it, her lungs had filled with blood and the cancer they said was gone had woken up with a vengeance! But my mother wasn't done. God knew the family wasn't ready to lose her. After two days of not waking up, she awaken, bright eyed, smiles and said it was time to come back.

We had my mother for two months after that and as I write this it's ironic everything was happening in twos. On January 31, 2002, my mother lost that fight to Lung Cancer, and while God gained a angel the world lost a amazing soul....

I told my story to wake people up especially smokers.

Smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer.
Exposure to radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer, and the leading cause in people who have never smoked. For more information about radon and testing your home, please visit EPA.gov/radon.
Other risk factors include:
  - lung scarring from tuberculosis
  - occupational or environmental exposure to:
     • secondhand smoke
     • radiation
     • asbestos
     • air pollution
     • arsenic
     • some organic chemicals
Genetic predisposition may also play a role in lung cancer development.
People who have never smoked account for between 20,000 and 30,000 lung cancer diagnoses every year.
As more people quit smoking, the percentage of cancers diagnosed in people who used to smoke will continue to increase.

For certain people at high risk, screening for lung cancer using low-dose CT scans is proven to save lives. New guidelines will help you understand if CT screening is appropriate for you.

Get screened if you are 55 to 80, you are currently smoking or quit within the past 15 years, you have a smoking history of at least 30 packs.
1 pack/day X 30 years = 30 pack years
1.5 packs a day X 20 years = 30 pack years

Get screened, get tested, STOP SMOKING!

October is a very special month for most for a lot of different reason and one of those reasons is it's Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. For those that have lost a baby understand this hurt and how important this month is and especially October 15th.

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day is a day of remembrance for pregnancy loss and infant death, which includes, however is not limited to, miscarriage, stillbirth, SIDS, and the death of a newborn.

October 15 is observed annually in Canada, United States, United Kingdom, Australian States of Western Australia, New South Wales, Norway, Italy and Kenya. The day is observed with remembrance ceremonies and candle-lighting vigils, concluding with the Lights of Love International Wave of Light, a worldwide lighting of candles that encompasses and spans the globe at 7:00 p.m. (local time)

On October 25, 1988, American President Ronald Reagan designated the entire month of October 1988 as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.

October 15 Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day Campaign began in 2002 as an American movement started by Robyn Bear, Lisa Brown, and Tammy Novak. Together, they petitioned the federal government, as well as the governors of each of the 50 states, in conjunction with the first observation of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day in October 15, 2002, 20 states signed proclamations recognizing the date as such. As a result of the American campaign effort, Concurrent Resolution 222, Supporting the goals and ideals of National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day was passed in the House of Representatives on September 28, 2006.

For those of us who have lost a child, this is a time to come together to remember our babies and also help raise awareness about the importance of the Safe To Sleep ® campaign to help reduce the rate of SIDS and other sleep-related deaths.

Every month over 250 of our babies die from SIDS, Stillbirth and other sleep-related issues. We can make a difference.

Join Eta Sigma Delta in lighting a candle at 7 pm local time in remembrance of the babies lost. Let's remember them together by banding together and lighting the candle.

I am the mother of an angel and this day is very important to me as well as to some of my sorority sisters. On this day I take time to get with my sisters and family and remember my angel in heaven. Help us spread the word and help us get the candles lit. Every single day I miss my baby and think about how she would be if she was alive and well.

If you missed any part of the homecoming week then I'm sorry to hear that because we had fun and New Orleans was Spectacular. Each day we took you to a different part of New Orleans ESD style!  ESD 7th Annual Homecoming week was off the chain! Not only was it fun but it was also for a serious cause.... Sickle Cell Anemia Disease. This week we have raised a total of $28,166L for Sickle Cell. If you donated give a pat on the back to yourself because you have made a impact toward saving a life. For those that can't thank you themselves, allow me to say thank you on their behalf.

Sickle-Cell Anemia is a disease that occurs when the red blood cells in the body are shaped like crescents, which can block blood flow in the blood vessels of the limbs and organs. Blocked blood flow can cause pain and organ damage and also raises the risk for infection.

It is estimated that between 90 to 100,000 Americans are living with Sickle-Cell Anemia, many of them people of color!

Sickle cell disease is an inherited blood disorder that affects red blood cells. People with sickle cell disease have red blood cells that contain mostly hemoglobin* S, an abnormal type of hemoglobin. Sometimes these red blood cells become sickle-shaped (crescent shaped) and have difficulty passing through small blood vessels.

When sickle-shaped cells block small blood vessels, less blood can each that part of the body. Tissue that does not receive a normal blood flow eventually becomes damaged. This is what causes the complications of sickle cell disease. There is currently no universal cure for sickle cell disease.

Hemoglobin is the main substance of the red blood cell. It helps red blood cells carry oxygen from the air in our lungs to all parts of the body. Normal red blood cells contain hemoglobin A. Hemoglobin S and hemoglobin C are abnormal types of hemoglobin. Normal red blood cells are soft and round and can squeeze through tiny blood tubes (vessels). Normally, red blood cells live for about 120 days before new ones replace them.

People with sickle cell conditions make a different form of hemoglobin A called hemoglobin S (S stands for sickle). Red blood cells containing mostly hemoglobin S do not live as long as normal red blood cells (normally about 16 days). They also become stiff, distorted in shape and have difficulty passing through the body’s small blood vessels. When sickle-shaped cells block small blood vessels, less blood can reach that part of the body. Tissue that does not receive a normal blood flow eventually becomes damaged. This is what causes the complications of sickle cell disease.
