Welcome Back! Glad to see that you are still with us and you was here for our tenth black owned business yesterday! If you are new here, grab a seat and check out what we are doing this month and don't forget to go back to the other blogs so you can play catch up! We hope you are enjoying learning about these businesses and their owners as much as we are. π
For Black History Month, Eta Sigma Delta Inc is highlighting some of our black owned businesses on the grid. These business leaders have been seen working very hard at what they do and showing everyone that they can and will do it. We want to recognize them for their hard work and dedication to their crafts.
These businesses have made a positive impact to the community rather it was by recognizing their dedicated customers, giving out group gifts, joining into conversations with their customers on Facebook or just by giving great customer service. We want to say thank you for letting us into your world and we commend you for your hard work and focus.
Here is what our eleventh business owner had to say....
Our eleventh business is Slept On Beauty!
Slept On Beauty is a beauty store that specializes in people of color skins plus makeup.
About the owner, Diamond Santiago Shaw
"I consider myself to be a very creative person in all aspects of life. No matter if it's with my skin business or landscaping or photography all of them are driven by this passion of mine just to want to make something beautiful."
Slept On Beauty has been in business for 8 months.
We asked Diamond a couple of questions and here is what she had to say...
Do you find it is harder for you being a black owned business and specifically if a lot of what you design, creative or put together caters more to black people?
- "I created my brand with my people in mind so as a black woman in the lane I'm in, I haven't faced difficulties regarding my race. However, as a business owner, you will face just common difficulties within your group your marketing to however, that's all about strategies and perseverance. "
What makes doing what you do rewarding for you?
- "What makes creating so rewarding is just seeing people so happy with my products. Or I see my skins in ads that have nothing to do with my store their selling their own product it gives me a lil tickle in my heart because their trusting me with their avis."
Typically how long does it take you to get 1 item out?
- "One skin can take up to 2-3 hours for a face."
What advice can you give to other black entrepreneurs trying to start their SL business?
- "Perseverance is the key to success. I'm still on my journey and sometimes the journey wants to make you quit but you just have to push through. We know it'll pay off, it's really a day at a time, don't stress yourself out too much. "
What would you like to say to all of your supporters and customers?
- "To all my supporters and customers thank you so much for giving me a very fruitful and prosperous first 8 months and I can't wait for the first year to come around because I know you all will make it amazing. Thank you so much."
The Flawless Sapphires of Eta Sigma Delta would like to thank you Diamond for taking time out of your busy day to give us a look inside your life.
Please support this beautiful young lady and continue to show love to our black owned businesses in Second Life.
